NMF Program: Nurse mare foals are the by-product of an industry that supplies lactating mares, or “nurse mares,” to foals whose natural parents have been lost, or taken away from their babies for commercial reasons, such as rebreeding. The natural foals of the nurse mares are expensive to raise by hand, and having little value, they are sometimes left to fend for themselves or die.
These foals may be very young when they lose their moms, even days or weeks old. They are often draft crosses, but they can be any breed or mixture of breeds. They are all in need of loving homes to replace the mamas they have lost, but with proper care, they will blossom into wonderful companions, riding horses and even sport horses. Learn about proper care and feeding of these tiny and delicate creatures. Learn how they adapt to their surroundings. Spend the day with our little "Hope" and you'll begin to understand the urgent need for loving and supportive homes.

A birth defect / a death sentence?: Horses are born everyday with various birth defects. Most horse owners and adopters are unaware of these issues because most of the horses are put down shortly after birth. Learn specifically about a condition called WryNose and meet a 7yo horse who lives happily every day. Learn about various leg deformities that can be overcome. Meet a wonderful 2yo horse with severely bowed legs and has no idea she is different from the other horses. She thrives on human contact and would welcome you to come and learn about her daily life.

Abuse and Neglect Awareness Program: This program emphasizes what things to look for when trying to determine abuse and neglect.

Slaughter Awareness Program: This program provides information about the effects of horse slaughter in our contry as well as abroad.

Equine First Aid: Be ready when your horse has an emergency. Topics will include what should be in your first aid kit, when to call the vet, as well as basic skills you will need to know. Learn how to recognize when your horse is in distress.

Cushings program: Equine Cushings disease is caused by a tumor in the pituitary gland, which is responsible for the production and regulation of hormones. Symptoms include a long, shaggy coat that does not shed, excessive drinking and urination, laminitis, a tendency for recurring infections in the hoof (foot abscesses), and a loss of muscle mass, especially along the topline and rump. Learn about the latest medications and treatments offered. Nutritional needs in a Cushings horse will be discussed in great detail.

Eldercare Program: Learn about changes that occur in your horse as he/she ages. Learn what dietary changes and supplements will best help your horse maintain a quality of life for many more years to come.

Arabian pride Program: Learn all about the breed. All things Arabian will be discussed. Breed traits, thought processes, and color variations.

Grooming Day Program: Put on your horse washing clothes and come on out. We'd love to have you help us bathe and groom the horses here at the farm.  A fun day for you and the kids to experience the horses together.

Finance your adoption: We are starting a new program whereby adopters will have the option of financing their adoption. Email SFH.INC@gmail.com for more information.
